An emotional Kimi Antonelli admitted he "couldn't see" in the last lap of the Mexico Grand Prix before being crowned world champion.

The Italian made history by winning the Drivers' Championship at the age of 20 years and 68 days, becoming the youngest world champion after surpassing Sebastian Vettel's record.

Going into the race, Antonelli needed only a ninth-place finish or better to win the title, but after finishing on the podium for the 16th time this season, the youngster became Italy's first champion since 1953.

The 20-year-old was overcome with emotion on the final lap, tearing up as he crossed the finish line.
