Liverpool appears to be following a potential left-back addition for the future, with reports emerging that the club is eyeing a possible replacement for Milos Kerkez.

It follows a challenging start to life for the Hungarian international on Merseyside, who was tasked with the difficult responsibility of being the long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, who had held down the position well for many years. The defender walked into a club that was in flux, which failed to set him up to show the best qualities he had displayed during his time at Bournemouth, leading to some spells in and out of the team as he looked to settle in.

A change over the summer brought in Andoni Iraola as head coach, someone who knows how to get the most out of Kerkez, having coached him to his best displays with the Cherries before he joined Liverpool.

Despite that change, the left-back hasn't quite managed to hit the same levels he showed with Bournemouth so far this season with the Reds, with some concerns emerging about his suitability for the team moving forward.

While fans seem to have those worries about last summer's arrival, it seems as though potential replacements are being eyed, with reports emerging about possible targets.

According to reporter Khadim Diakhate, Liverpool is tracking El Hadji Malick Diouf, despite the star only recently joining Brentford from West Ham.

It's claimed that the Reds, along with Premier League rival Chelsea, are following the Senegalese international ahead of the next summer transfer window, with contact already made to see if a move could be possible.

While it may be a move for the 21-year-old to replace Kerkez, there may also be a consideration over Kostas Tsimikas, who is nearing the final few months of his contract, which could see him leave the club if a new deal isn't on the table.

The question for Liverpool will surround just how much any deal could cost the club, and whether other areas of the pitch may be more of a priority for Ward and the rest of the recruitment team.

The center-back ranks could be under consideration, with doubt over the long-term futures of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Ronald Araujo, while right-back has been another problem area for the team in the past year or so.

Beyond that, the midfield has clearly been viewed as an area for improvement, while the right wing has been another place targeted by the Reds in recent months, meaning Ward will have to think carefully about the resources at his disposal, and where they are distributed to get the best results possible.

It certainly sets up an interesting few months of transfer interest for Liverpool, with some promising signs under Iraola so far, but with clear work that needs to be done to give the manager the best platform possible to succeed.
