The result of the weekend in the Go2Day West Cheshire League’s Division One belonged to Chester Nomads, who travelled to Newton on Friday evening, and deprived the fourth-placed hosts of their hundred percent record to date in all competitions.
Efforts from Cam Clark, Charlie Mann, and Tom Rowlands secured a 3-0 victory and confirmed Nomads’ fifth win of the season.
For the second time in recent weeks, current leaders AFC Knowsley fought out an epic eight-goal thriller with Mallaby and emerged 5-3 victors following an entertaining contest. Efforts from Carl Peers and Isaiaha Emegbuonye saw the visitors go in 2-0 up at half time before Mallaby went in front through Ellis Platt (2) and Cam McGregor. Late goals in a fifteen-minute spell from Wahib Tahra (2) and Will Duke then turned the tide in favour of the visitors.
Matty Williams plundered the game’s only goal, as second-placed challengers, Helsby, got the better of a spirited Heswall and stayed a point adrift of leaders Knowsley.
With two games in hand, while Will Maddock struck twice for the second week in succession as Mossley Hill Ath. eclipsed Ellesmere Port Town 2-1. The Port’s marksman was Callum Hardy.
Following a spate of indifferent results, FC Kirkby returned to winning ways and celebrated a 2-0 win over Litherland Remyca, courtesy of a goal apiece from Connor Smith and Brendan Rawcliffe.
In Division Two, leaders, Neston Nomads, thanks to an effort from Alex Butterworth and an own goal, won 2-1 at Sefton Park Rangers, and went four points clear at the top, but Runcorn Sports’ hopes of an immediate return to the top flight stalled, after a goal from Ryan Bazley was matched by a reply from Aintree Villa Res.’ Jack Hamlet.
Inspired by a smart double from Matty Walsh, unbeaten Division Three leaders, Moreton, stayed four points in credit at the top, and celebrated their tenth win of the campaign, following Friday evening’s 4-0 decision over Helsby U23s.
Nearest rivals, Marine Academy, remained firmly in contention, and were indebted to goals from Ollie Byrne (2), Jack Wilson-Jones (2), Will McNulty, and Ant Seagraves which sealed a 6-4 result over Vauxhall Motors U23s. Spare a thought for Motors’ Jacob Garnett, who bagged a hat trick, yet still finished on the losing side. The other scorer was Jordan Lloyd.
The points were divided, after a treble from Blacon Youth Club’s Kenny Brown was negated by efforts from Litherland Ath. JFC’s Ethan Galt (2) and Mikail Basanmay and it was honours shared also, after Athletico Blues, with goals from Mikey Molyneux and Finbar McGovern stalemated 2-2 with Neston Nomads U23s who had Will Shuker and Cal Blondell on target.
Elsewhere, neither net saw action after Rainhill Town Res. finished 0-0 with Capenhurst Villa Res. On the cup scene, any hopes FC Bootle harboured of retaining the Pyke Cup were dashed after they came a cropper at the first hurdle when they lost 4-3 at South Liverpool Res. who sealed the issue, thanks to efforts from George Murray (2), Josh Panther, and Anton Gibbons. Bootle’s marksmen were Jamie Griffith, Dylan Westerside, and an own goal.
Great Sutton progressed to the Haworth & Gallagher Bowl second round, after goals from Callum Hulme (2), Cole Mari, and John Skipsey sparked a 4-1 result over Chester Nomads Res., who had Victor Arogundade in response.
In the Deadwood Arborists Cup first round, a goal from Ellesmere Port Town’s Charlie McIveen failed to prevent his side for losing 2-1 at the hands of Kelsall, who progressed after hitting back via Mikey Taylor and Dan Eagle.
Congratulations are also in order for Youth Division outfit Glenavon U18s, who secured their place in the Cheshire FA Youth Cup fourth round after they triumphed 4-3 in last Sunday’s victory at Dukinfield Town U17s.
Applications are invited for the post of Go2Day Cheshire League Fixture Secretary, a role previously covered expertly by the late Mark Ford, whose sad passing has given rise to this opportunity.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the programming of all fixtures for the League’s clubs, and will encompass dialogue with the League Secretary and various facility venues to ensure availability on dates allocated.
Persons interested are advised to contact the League Secretary, Jose Damiao, (07947744369) or email secretary.westcheshireafl@gmail.com as soon as possible
