East Kilbride explain decision as Ferry takes over from Kennedy

The League One promotion hopefuls are allowing Kennedy to take a hiatus to concentrate on furthering his coaching qualifications, which will in turn help the club achieve SFA Bronze Licence status.

He will still be a "valued" part of the coaching staff during this period, but Open Goal host Ferry will step forward to be at the forefront of it.

A statement from East Kilbride's chief executive George Fraser said: "East Kilbride FC can confirm that Mick Kennedy will be stepping back from his managerial duties with the first team to concentrate on furthering his coaching qualifications and completing his UEFA coaching pathway.

"This decision will enable the club to ensure compliance with the SFA Bronze Licence requirements, while providing Mick with the opportunity to dedicate his full attention to completing his coaching badges.

"Mick will remain a key and valued member of the club's coaching team throughout this period. This hiatus will give Mick the opportunity to focus fully on his coaching development and the completion of his qualifications.

"The club fully supports Mick in this decision and recognises the importance of his continued development as a coach. He will remain an integral part of our coaching setup, and we look forward to supporting him as he progresses through the next stage of his coaching journey.

"Simon Ferry will take over as first team manager during this period, supported by the existing coaching team, ensuring continuity and stability as we continue our campaign.

"Everyone at East Kilbride FC would like to thank Mick for his continued commitment to the club and looks forward to him returning to his role of manager after the completion of the necessary coaching qualifications."

Under the stewardship of the pair, the club won promotion from the Lowland League and immediately then lifted the League Two title in their first season in the SPFL.

After a strong start to the season, they sit fourth in League One and will hope to secure a promotion play-off spot.
