Will Iger will serve as the play-by-play announcer for the Coachella Valley Lakers, as his father seeks to close a deal to buy the parent franchise.

Another Iger is set to get into the Lakers business.

Will Iger, the son of former Disney CEO and soon-to-be Los Angeles Lakers co-owner Bob Iger, is set to join the broadcast team for the Coachella Valley Lakers, the team announced Thursday.

The Coachella Valley Lakers (previously known as the South Bay Lakers) are the G League team owned by the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA G League is a development league meant to serve as a platform to develop players for the NBA.

The Lakers said Thursday that Iger will be the team’s play-by-play announcer for the new season, which tips off Friday. A.C. Green, a three-time NBA champion, will return to the broadcast booth as the game analyst. It will be the team’s first season in the Palm Springs area, having relocated from the South Bay region of Los Angeles.

Iger is joining the Lakers from the Austin Spurs, the G League affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs. He was also a weekly commentator on the Dallas Mavericks’ weekly studio show The Bounce, and previously called games for the USL team San Antonio FC, as well as college games for Columbia University and Hofstra in New York.

Will Iger joins the Lakers’ G League team as his father is moving forward to close the deal for the parent franchise. Thrive Capital’s Joshua Kushner is set to become the Lakers’ primary owner once that deal closes, with Bob Iger expected to have a hands-on operational role in addition to his ownership stake.

Kushner and Iger were said to be pursuing a potential NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas when word got out that lakers owner Mark Walter was looking to sell his majority stake in the iconic NBA team.

Iger, of course, got his start on TV in Ithaca, New York before becoming an executive.
