Tottenham Hotspur have endured a difficult start to the campaign, with their struggles in front of goal contributing to growing concerns over Roberto De Zerbi’s position at the club.
Roberto De Zerbi was backed heavily during the summer transfer window, as Spurs brought in 10 new players to bounce back from a near-catastrophic 2025/26 season. Three of those joining the club were attackers in the form of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk.
None of these attackers have managed to make a goal contribution in the Premier League. More concerningly, Spurs have scored just three league goals. The need for greater quality in wide areas and in front of goal has put the North London club’s scouts all across the world working day and night ahead of the winter transfer window.
It was widely reported during the summer transfer window that Tottenham were interested in signing RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa.
The winger was one of the standout performers for Norway at the summer’s World Cup. The youngster’s performances at the world’s biggest stage caught the attention of several big European clubs. In the end, though, Antonio Nusa stayed put at RB Leipzig. The Norwegian international later dismissed transfer rumours by suggesting that he’s happy at the Red Bull Arena.
Antonio Nusa has enjoyed a strong start to the 2026/27 season, bagging four goals and three assists in eight games, and this has alerted several Premier League clubs. According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing Nusa. The RB Leipzig sensation, who plays a bit like Neymar, has emerged on the radar of these clubs ahead of the winter transfer window.
The report adds that Arsenal and Aston Villa hold the edge over Newcastle United in the transfer race, as they can offer the winger Champions League football. Interestingly, there is no mention of Tottenham’s active interest in the Scandinavian talent, who could be poached away from RB Leipzig for at least £60m.
It is well-documented that the left wing has been an issue for Tottenham this season. Mathys Tel has not featured for Spurs in the last two league games owing to substandard displays, while Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain out with ACL injury. As such, De Zerbi has been forced to use Mohammed Kudus on the left flank.
Nusa’s qualities make him an ideal fit in De Zerbi’s system, but Spurs have seemingly cooled their interest in him. This is surprising, given that the Lilywhites were actively seeking the Norwegian starlet’s signature in the summer. Perhaps, the club do not want to spend big in the winter window and will only target a quality left-winger next summer. By then, Nusa may no longer be available.
