WNBA cameras catch Steph Curry shouting to Gabby Williams during Dream loss
Gabby Williams #1 of the Golden State Valkyries is removed from the fourth quarter

Steph Curry was caught on camera shouting a message to Gabby Williams after the Golden State Valkyries suffered a Game 2 defeat to the Atlanta Dream.

The Valkyries missed the chance to take control of the WNBA Finals, falling 79-65 to the Atlanta Dream at Chase Center on Monday. The best-of-seven series is now tied at 1-1. Golden State fell 21 points behind before mounting a late rally in the fourth quarter, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

As the Valkyries left the court following the defeat, cameras caught Curry attempting to console Williams, with the Golden State Warriors star shouting: “Here we go, Gabby!”

Williams finished with 14 points, two rebounds and four steals in 27 minutes, but struggled with her shooting, making just three of 15 attempts from the field while committing four turnovers.

The two-time All-Star had starred in Game 1, recording 26 points, four rebounds and two assists. Curry's encouraging words may offer some comfort after a difficult night, with the Warriors star having been a vocal supporter of the Valkyries since the franchise was founded last year and regularly praising Williams.

The 30-year-old forward has attracted attention ahead of the WNBA Finals but appears largely uninterested in the growing recognition. After years of feeling overlooked by the media, the Valkyries star insists the recent praise has not changed her outlook.

"The media's never respected me. I've never expected them to. So that's always been in the back of my head," Williams said during Finals media day on Friday ahead of Game 1. "I've never paid any mind to the media, so if the media's praising me now, I don't care."

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham recently praised the mentality of Williams, during the latest episode of her basketball podcast, No Hesitation, alongside trainer Drew Hanlen.

“I want to hit on this, and I think this is super important,” she said. “When your best player, regardless of how they’re playing, is still making sure that her teammates are feeling confident… that is huge. You have got to put team first, and I think Gabby Williams is a great example of doing that.

“… And we all know that Gabby Williams is an absolute beast. She is so hard to guard. She’s a phenomenal player. Great teammate is what I’ve heard. So for her just to mentally stay in it and seize the moment, that was a huge game.”

Cunningham also praised Williams for being a positive role model for young players. “I think that’s absolutely amazing and a great example for younger athletes that no one’s going to play perfect,” continued Cunningham. “… You could have the best game of your life, of your career, and you’re still going to make mistakes.

“And so Gabby just did a wonderful job in Game 3 of staying where her two feet are at.”
