Ludlow suffer agonising defeat late on at Hereford

Kicking up the slope Ludlow were on the back-foot from the outset and were conceded the opening try with just eight minutes played.

The ball was moved wide through hands to Rhys Proctor who made ground and off-loaded to Damian Miller on his outside, who raced across the line to touch down under the sticks, Josh Wright added the conversion.

Ludlow responded with a try on their own on 20 minutes after Charlie Doyle broke from a scrum in the Hereford 10-metre zone to touch down and Bailey Bache made the conversion.

The Wyesiders took the lead again seven minutes later, when they drove over the line from a scrum and Ollie Hutcheson touched down, Wright converted with an excellent kick from near the touch line.

Hereford were reduced to 14 men when Josh Walker was yellow carded, the penalty was kicked to the corner and Ludlow executed the catch and drive well for Ben Chamberlain to touch down, Bache kicked the conversion.

Before half-time Ludlow received a yellow card themselves and the interval was reached with the scores even at 14-14.

Within five minutes of the restart Hereford were back in the lead. The ball was released to Leon Parsons 15 yards out, who crashed through the defence to touch down, Wright landed the conversion.

Ludlow drew level again from a tap penalty driven over for Jamie Durban to touch down and Bache to convert, taking the score to 21-21.

Five minutes later Ludlow were awarded a penalty in front of the posts. The visitors opted to kick for goal and Bache slotted it to give Ludlow the lead for the first time in the game at 21-24.

Hereford threw everything into attack and after several visits to the Ludlow 22 they were awarded a penalty, which they kicked to the corner.

The home side executed a driving maul from the lineout perfectly and Scott Robinson touched down for the bonus point try, Wright kicked the conversion to seal the win.

Meanwhile, Tenbury Ladies’ Hockey Club continued their poor run of form with a 7-0 loss away at Worcester on Saturday.

The home side provided an impressive performance, showing their fitness with some slick passing and a solid keeper.

At half-time Worcester were 4-0 up and although Tenbury found a response in the second half, Worcester’s defence was solid. No matter how hard Tenbury tried they just could not find a breakthrough.

Despite being awarded some deserved penalty corners, Tenbury were unable to capitalise and Worcester added a further three goals without reply from Tenbury. Visiting player of the match went to Liv Breakwell.
