Atrás
A lot has been written about Rangers’ lack of quality number 10s over the year.
At present time, the options Derek McInnes has are Minsu Kim, Findlay Curtis and Ryan Naderi.
None of these are convincing. Between them they have a pathetic 3 assists, and all of those were from Naderi. Only one was in the league.
In short, no one in Govan has been a concise answer to the 10 position.
Meanwhile there’s a 23-year-old Scot with 6 goals and assists in 12 in the Premiership with a market value of only £200,000. He is on loan, but he’s a fine talent and gaining maturity.
His name?
Yes, the old Auchenhowie graduate and controversial Ibrox exit has returned to the Premiership with Motherwell, on loan from Wycombe, and he’s determined to develop into the player his talent probably deserves.
Now let’s not perpetuate him as the ghost of Kaka or anything. His 3 assists were valuable, as all goals and assists always are, but only one was SPL. That said, two were against the very decent HJK in the Conference League qualifiers.
His goals? Killie, Dundee, and Utd. So definitely an evolving player.
Is he one that has any merit to return to Rangers?
Well he’s one of us, and he’s having a solid time back north. But he failed badly at Wycombe which is League One, just five goals and assists in 34 down south, at such a modest level.
Motherwell is probably his reach if we’re honest.
Lowry has a tonne of untapped potential, and he’s as yet not realised it. Motherwell are starting to get some of that from him, and we’d be very interested in a year as to his progress.
He knows himself he can do so much more in football than he’s managed, and whether life got in the way or his own attitude did, it’s on him to be better.
He’s probably no better than what Rangers currently have, but he has the same number of assists as all Rangers’ 10s combined.
Which is probably a bit embarrassing on Rangers’ part more than anything really, what que sera.
Maybe Rangers and Alex Lowry will meet again in the future.
We shall see.
