Ashley Young called out Bruno Fernandes live on-air after footage of the Manchester United captain entering Old Trafford for Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth emerged.
Fernandes has been dropped by United head coach Michael Carrick for the fixture at Old Trafford, and will start the game against the Cherries from the bench.
Carrick addressed Fernandes' absence in his pre-match interview with Sky Sports, and former United left-back Young went one step further with his assessment of the United captain - and on what he spotted him doing before the match.
Sky Sports' Super Sunday showed footage of Fernandes walking into Old Trafford wearing his club tracksuit - with the hood up over his head.
And while that may have been simply down to the effects of Storm Boelo outside the stadium, Young did not appear to like Fernandes' body language in the context of the Portugal midfielder being dropped from the XI.
"Okay, you've been dropped. As a player, it happens. We've been there," Young, who briefly captained United between the summer of 2019 and January 2020, said. "But you want to see a reaction. He's got his hood up, he's walking in, he's trying to show the fans, 'Look, I'm still upset'. But that's not the reaction you want from a captain of Manchester United.
"You want to see him [act like], 'Right, okay. I've been dropped. I know what I've done wrong. I'm going to walk in, and when I get the opportunity to come on the pitch, I'm going to show what I'm actually about. Okay, my comments in the week were said and directed at Michael Carrick, but I don't want to show everyone else. What I've said is already out there. Now I need to show what I'm about'.
"Personality, and showing that when he walks in. That [the clip of Fernandes walking in] is not what you want to see."
