WWEAEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts beat WWE NXT in the latest head-to-head ratings war this past Wednesday night.
AEW Dynamite drew 792,000 viewers with a 0.24 rating in 18-49. WWE NXT garnered 552,000 viewers with a 0.13 rating in 18-49. With its latest victory, AEW Dynamite ended the five-night streak of head-to-head losses against WWE NXT.
WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite have gone head-to-head on Tuesdays every year for the past five years due to preemption for the MLB Playoffs on TBS. Their last head-to-head encounter happened last month where NXT comfortably defeated AEW Dynamite on October 6, 2026.
This week marked the first time in the CW Era that NXT went against AEW Blood and Guts, Dynamite’s biggest show of the year. NXT did not take the assignment lightly, loading up the show with John Cena, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk and a surprise appearance by Paige. Main roster stars Rey Fenix, Dragon Lee, Chad Gable and 946 also made appearances.
NXT and AEW spun the block for the rare Wednesday encounter as NXT was preempted by 2026 Midterm Election coverage. The last time NXT was preempted to Wednesday was on November 6, 2024 when NXT defeated Dynamite with 619,000 viewers vs. 523,000 viewers.
While promoting Blood and Guts last week, Tony Khan took a swipe at WWE’s high ticket prices compared to AEW’s more family friendly pricing. Having said that, it’s tough to promote a product as family friendly when your biggest television show of the year is a violent spectacle called Blood and Guts.
"AEW also has the most affordable tickets in TV wrestling. I guarantee you we’re not going to take an arm and a leg for this,” Khan said. “This is going to be a good night at the wrestling matches,” said Tony in an interview with First Coast News.
AEW Blood and Guts was a two-match show book-ended by men’s and women’s Blood and Guts matches with promos and interstitials in between. Blood and Guts also went almost 30 minutes past the hour, which will further hurt its overall total viewership. The national wrestling wars actually kicked off this past Saturday as NXT Halloween Havoc (461,000 viewers, 0.07 in 18-49) defeated AEW Collision (302,000 viewers, 0.06 in 18-49) on Halloween night.
Though Dynamite boasted the bloodier matches with one of its most reliable stipulations on Wednesday, the lack of wrestling in between the two matches and long overrun almost certainly negatively impacted viewership, especially considering there was a loaded WWE show on the CW. But at its peak, "AEW Dynamite" was the top-trending term in the world on Twitter, with WWE NXT trailing at No. 3. This foreshadowed the result as AEW enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable victory over a star-studded NXT.
WWE will now set its sights on Saudi Arabia as the company makes a controversial flight to Riyadh for Crown Jewel 2026. WWE SmackDown was taped in Brooklyn last week as talent prepare for a five-match show with two Crown Jewel Championship showdowns featuring all four men’s and women’s main roster world champions.
