Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons is still recovering from a knee injury, but that hasn’t stopped him from weighing in on the NFL’s biggest storylines.
In his latest comments, Parsons took aim at the Kansas City Chiefs’ passing attack after their disappointing performance against the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers star wasn’t impressed with the offense’s lack of deep-play ability and questioned whether Xavier Worthy can fill the role Tyreek Hill once held.
The Chiefs suffered a 20-3 blowout loss to the reigning Super Bowl champions, which prompted Parsons to make it clear he wasn’t worried about facing their offense.
“The Chiefs don’t scare me. Watching that game, I was not scared… They need someone who’s able to take the top off,” Parsons said on “The Edge” podcast.
Parsons believes the Chiefs are missing the kind of deep threat that made their offense so dangerous during Hill’s time in Kansas City. While Worthy has the speed to stretch the field, Parsons isn’t convinced that alone makes him a suitable replacement.
Co-host and NFL trainer Quincy Avery pushed back, pointing to Worthy’s 4.21-second 40-yard dash time. “And it’s crazy. They got Xavier Worthy, 4.2 (speed), whatever that is,” he said.
Parsons responded, “We have to stop this madness. Just because you buy Tyreek Hill speed doesn’t mean you buy Tyreek.”
The Chiefs’ offense has looked noticeably different since Hill left for Miami in 2022, with much of its vertical threat going with him.
Kansas City drafted Worthy out of Texas with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, hoping his speed would help fill that void. Worthy turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash to break John Ross’ previous record of 4.22 seconds.
That speed helped push him into the first round, but it hasn’t consistently translated into game-changing production in the NFL. Injuries, his slight frame, and an underdeveloped route tree have all limited Worthy’s impact.
Against the Seahawks, Worthy caught three passes for just 11 yards and failed to score a touchdown. Through six games this season, Worthy has totaled 217 receiving yards and one touchdown. He ranks No. 63 among wide receivers with a PFN WR Impact Score of 71.6.
Still, the Chiefs’ offense ranks eighth in the league with a PFN Offense Impact Score of 80.6, thanks largely to the emergence of their running game led by Kenneth Walker III, the league’s second-leading rusher.
Worthy’s struggles aren’t Kansas City’s only concern, though. Rashee Rice has missed the past two games after suffering a hamstring injury against the Las Vegas Raiders, and he’s also dealing with a knee issue. Although Rice is returning to practice this week, his availability for Week 8 remains uncertain.
Travis Kelce is still productive at 37, but the Chiefs can’t rely on the veteran tight end to carry their passing game the way they once did.
If the Chiefs want to scare teams again, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid will need to get creative and find ways to revive their passing attack when they face the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
