The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked as a trade landing spot for Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., but would it be the best fit for all parties involved? Here's what fans should know.
After playing just 21% of snaps in the Jaguars' last game, as well as two other games this season where he was under 40%, it's no wonder why Thomas has been heavily tied to trade rumors. The Steelers, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, were also named as possible trade suitors. Considering Pittsburgh's wide receiver woes, along with a 5-2 record that could leave the team as buyers at the deadline, a Thomas trade makes too much sense.
A trade for Thomas may be similar to that of the Houston Texans' trade for Marvin Harrison Jr., in which a second-round draft pick was given up for a struggling wide receiver with first-round upside. But it's hard to imagine the Steelers meeting that price for Thomas, who's recorded just 812 receiving yards in his past 20 games across the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Make no mistake: Thomas is immensely talented. Fans need to only analyze his 2024 rookie season, where he recorded 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, to understand how valuable he could be for Pittsburgh. But the Jaguars may need to lower their standards to a third-round pick if they hope to get anything from Thomas at the deadline.
