Tom Cleverley lauds two-goal Will Evans after Plymouth ease past Alvechurch

Substitutes Michael Baidoo and Ronan Curtis also scored as the Greens struck three times in a scintillating 11-minute second-half spell.

Cleverley said: “Will Evans’ work-rate for the team is incredible. He produced his most complete game for the team with goals as reward for his work-rate.

“I said at half-time we needed more intensity without looking as though we were panicking. The clean sheet was one of many positives.

“Michael Baidoo back and getting his goal was another. I am excited by the depth of the squad now, especially in attacking areas and how we can influence games from the bench.

“We are more relieved than celebratory but it was a positive result for the football club.

“It was their (Alvechurch’s) cup final, playing in front of 10-and-a-half thousand, so we knew it would be tricky and that we would have to be patient. They were very well supported.

“We are the so-called giants waiting to be killed and if we get to third round the shoe could be on the other foot. We now hope for a home tie in the second round.”

Church manager Kyle Storer felt it was a great learning experience for his players.

He said: “I thought we were very well structured at first. The game plan was to press high up the pitch but Argyle’s quality in the end told. The quality of the Plymouth subs coming on had a massive impact.

“We gifted them the first goal and then they got the second and a third in quick succession. It was a great learning curve for our boys.

“The result was disappointing but some of these boys have never been here (in the FA Cup first round) before so the experience has been great for them.

“We have a tough game against Stourbridge on Tuesday and they are flying so now it’s all about focusing on our division.”
