Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scored 23 points in Saturday’s 126-119 overtime win over the Orlando Magic, his 10th NBA game, as Golden State stretched its winning streak to seven games.

After the game, a fan posted a stat that put the 24-year-old forward’s name next to Michael Jordan’s for how quickly he reached three statistical marks. Other fans followed, with some already turning to awards for the rookie.

Lendeborg had seven points through three quarters while Orlando wiped out a 16-point halftime deficit. He then went 4-of-4 from the field for nine points in the fourth quarter, and after a 110-110 tie at the end of regulation, he and Stephen Curry accounted for 12 of Golden State’s 16 points in overtime.

Lendeborg finished with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 37 minutes, while Curry led all scorers with 41. Lendeborg entered the night with 189 points for the season and left with 212, crossing 200 in his 10th game.

One fan needed only two words to sum up where the rookie stands: “Dude’s legit.”

The Jordan comparison came from another statistics page, ‘Real App,’ which wrote: “Yaxel Lendeborg is tied as the fastest player since Michael Jordan to reach: 200+ PTS 50+ REB 25+ AST.” The post sets three thresholds at once, but did not say how many games it took or who shares the mark.

Points were the last of those marks to fall. Lendeborg passed 50 rebounds and 25 assists in a win over the LA Clippers on November 1, the night he scored a career-high 37 points.

He left that game with 156 points, then scored 16 against the Phoenix Suns on Nov. 2 and 17 against the Miami Heat on November 5, leaving him 11 short of 200 entering Saturday.

Another fan, replying directly to the post with the Jordan stat, wrote: “Yaxel is keeping some ridiculous company already.”

Two other fans took the praise a step further, to awards. One of them repeated the stat’s own words before reaching a verdict on the Rookie of the Year race: “‘Since Michael Jordan’ yeah wrap this ROTY race up.”

The other wrote: “All-Star Rookie, Yaxel Lendeborg.”

Lendeborg’s line against Orlando also carried six of Golden State’s 19 turnovers and five fouls, though he finished plus-6 in 37 minutes. He has 35 turnovers through 10 games, and his roughest night came against the Los Angeles Lakers on October 30, when he had six points, five turnovers and six fouls in 24 minutes.

Across his 10 starts, Lendeborg is averaging 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists, with nine games in double figures and five of at least 20 points.

He had 113 points, 46 rebounds and 20 assists through his first five games and has added 99 points, 26 rebounds and 20 assists in the five since, a dip on the glass from 9.2 rebounds a game to 5.2. Those totals, 212 points, 72 rebounds and 40 assists, now clear every mark in the stat that set off Saturday night’s reaction.
