Napoli are working on an ambitious loan deal that could bring a talented Barcelona midfielder to southern Italy.

With the January transfer window soon upon us, a number of top European clubs are already beginning to plot ways to strengthen their squads.

Serie A leaders and title hopefuls are currently scouting for big-name talent.

One of the most ambitious moves being worked on is that of a major Italian club that is looking to launch a formal inquiry to bring in a very talented midfielder currently playing in La Liga.

Barcelona favourite Gavi is now seen as a leading mid-season target for Napoli. Reports claim that the club’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has been working on bringing the Spanish international to Italy during the winter, as per Diario Sport.

Napoli are hoping to put together a loan move with a buy option to bring the star quality into the midfield of the Serie A outfit.

The interest from the Italian club comes due to the midfielder’s current predicament in Catalonia.

The 22-year-old La Masia graduate has struggled to get into the starting XI under Hansi Flick this season with little playing time.

Seeing a chance, Napoli have made contact with the player’s camp to find out if he would be willing to leave and if they can negotiate a deal for January.

While Napoli are very ambitious and are offering the player a key role, it is highly unlikely Gavi will leave in the middle of the season.

He is also highly valued by the Barcelona hierarchy and Flick and will be an important part of the squad moving forward.

Napoli have made their intentions known, but Barcelona and the player himself are expected to reject any offers in the winter.
