Fabio Celestini's first words on becoming new Burnley boss

Celestini was appointed earlier this week to replace Nicky Hayen, who was sacked after the 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City with the Clarets sitting in the relegation zone.

The new head coach has arrived in similar situations at his previous clubs and believes he can help to “change the dynamic”.

“Really, I come always on the bad moments,” he grinned. “In Lausanne, in Luzern, in Lugano, in Basel, I come always when the dynamic is not so good. In Basel, I came and the club was last with five points behind the second last.

“But they played the semi-final of the Conference League against Fiorentina one month before. It was like a nonsense situation!

“For that, I am like a specialist to come in tough times and for that, I don't care about the position. Here, we have 34 matches more and you have 102 points (to play for).

“For me, it was absolutely not a problem, the situation, because I know we can change the dynamic and we have time.

“I believe in the club, but in this team, because I think they have quality. In this moment, we have a gap between the potential and the performance but I think we can change the dynamic.”

Celestini had been out of work since leaving CSKA Moscow, where he won the Russian Super Cup, at the end of last season.

“I'm very proud to be part of this club. It’s an iconic club in England, but in the world too. It’s one of the oldest stadiums in the world, won two times the Championship and one time the Cup. It’s one of the oldest clubs in the world, and for that I'm very proud to be here,” he insisted.

“Now it’s 17 years (in management) and I’m looking at one project. I’m a very passionate guy, an emotional guy. I need to feel comfortable where I work,” the new boss continued.

“With Diego (Lopez) and with the president (Alan Pace), all that I feel around the club in the last two days is what I need in this moment.

“I want to feel comfortable to give my best. I see a project that has not just come to try to help us to change the dynamic.

“I want to build something, not just to come and try to win. Normally, 95 per cent of the project is like that. You must come to win.

“We want to win, that's clear, but what's most important for me is how we can win, and win together.

“Here, I see something like that to have a project. That was interesting for me from the beginning, and for that I accepted the challenge.”
