Luke Littler hunting first European Championship in Dortmund

Luke Littler heads to Germany this weekend to try to complete the set by winning the European Championship. The top 32-ranked players from European Tour events over the course of 2026 compete for glory in Dortmund and it is the only major televised event Littler is yet to win.The 19-year-old, who is braced for another hostile reception in Germany, is in a ‘drought’ by his standards, having failed to win the World Series of Darts Finals and the World Grand Prix. The schedule of play for the 2026 Machineseeker European Championship has been confirmed! 👀📝 https://t.co/xKz1HVFOGh pic.twitter.com/LaldV1AlSy— PDC Darts (@OfficialPDC) October 19, 2026The back-to-back world champion must turn his attention back to business, having spent time practising this week for the Netflix show ‘Beat Luke Littler’.Littler is taking on 20 amateur players, who will win £501,000 if they can win a 501-leg against him.He posted a video of himself practising earlier this week, with the caption: “11 dart leg practising at home. 30 October live on “Beat Luke Littler”, we’ll see if anyone has what it takes to do that.”Ireland’s William O’Connor is his opponent in Dortmund on Friday night.Luke Humphries took advantage of Littler’s surprise first-round exit at the World Grand Prix to win his first major title since May 2025.Humphries has fallen into Littler’s shadow over the last 18 months and knows he has to try to sweep up when he can.“I don’t think the sport is in that position where you can just go and dominate,” he said. “You just have to pick up the tournaments that are there when you see them.View this post on InstagramA post shared by Luke TheNuke Littler (@lukethenukelittler) “It’s a tough situation in darts now. You can’t pick up titles like you used to be able to.“There are so many players playing really well, so now, I’ll try to take the confidence and go on and make sure I keep pushing to try to win more.”Humphries headlines the opening night on Thursday against World Championship semi-finalist Ryan Searle.Defending champion Gian van Veen opens up against Andrew Gilding as he hopes to win a second major title.“The last couple of weeks and months have been going a lot better than at the start of the year,” said the Dutch number one.“I think it will be very special to be back in Dortmund after last year. Of course it was where I reached my first major semi-final three years ago, so it’s a nice tournament for me.“It would mean absolutely everything to retain the title. That trophy has had a special place in our house and it’s about to leave our house again, so I would like to have it back, otherwise it will feel empty.”
