Collin Sexton had fans buzzing Wednesday night with his relentless defensive pressure, animated facial expressions, and aggressive offensive attack in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 103-87 win over the Los Angeles Clippers at Intuit Dome.

The 27-year-old guard scored 21 points off the bench, but a heated moment with Clippers center Brook Lopez late in the third quarter gave fans even more to talk about.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers guard was already drawing attention for his wild facial expressions and tireless on-ball pressure. Then came the Lopez exchange, which quickly circulated on social media.

BrickCenter posted, “Collin Sexton was ready to THROW HANDS, and Brook Lopez wanted NO PART of it.”

Basketball influencer Ahmed/The Ears wrote that Sexton “was ready to square up and Brook Lopez said I come in peace.”

The moment came with about a minute remaining in the third quarter. The nine-year veteran drove into the paint and scored against Lopez before falling to the floor and flexing his muscles, seemingly toward the Clippers’ bench.

As Lopez watched the ball go in, Jarred Vanderbilt nudged him, nearly sending him onto the Lakers guard. Sexton immediately stood up to face Lopez, who raised an arm to maintain some distance while Vanderbilt held his other arm. The former Milwaukee Bucks big man appeared to explain what happened before Sexton walked away.

One fan enjoyed the confrontation, tweeting, “Sexton a mad man tonight and I love it.”

Hater Report added, “Bro been wildin.”

His energy wasn’t limited to that sequence. Playing 21 minutes on the second night of a back-to-back with Luka Dončić sidelined by back tightness, Sexton shot 6-for-11, knocking down 4 3-pointers, and finished with a team-best plus-minus of plus-23.

The former lottery pick also scored 11 consecutive points late in the third quarter, helping the Lakers build an 85-65 lead.

The performance came a night after the Lakers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 136-129 to the Portland Trail Blazers. The former Cavaliers standout struggled in that game, scoring 9 points on 4-for-11 shooting while missing all 5 of his 3-point attempts.

One fan remembered the criticism that followed: “Some people were ready to get rid of Sexton after last game.”

Another celebrated the guard’s approach: “Lakers finally got killers on the team!”

The No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft signed a two-year, $19.2 million contract with Los Angeles in July.

Sexton was playing just his fourth game for the Lakers after missing the season opener with a calf injury. His 21 points against the Clippers were his highest total through those four appearances.
