Rookie Hannes Steinbach dominated for Charlotte's second unit as the Hornets fell to the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Charlotte Hornets played their final preseason game Friday night, taking on the Memphis Grizzlies away from home. Entering the contest, Charlotte had gone 1-2 in their first three preseason games, with a win against the Milwaukee Bucks and losses against the Nets and Celtics. Unfortunately for Hornets fans, Charlotte was unable to overcome the turnover woes that have neutralized them this preseason, committing 24 giveaways and suffering a 19-point defeat (117-98) as a result.
Rookie center Hannes Steinbach was by far the biggest bright spot, posting his best preseason performance. The German international tallied his first double-double, finishing with 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds and three steals. His international teammate, Christian Anderson Jr., also looked solid, adding 15 points off the bench with six assists, two rebounds and one steal.
Looking ahead, the Hornets will play their first game of the 2026-27 season Wednesday, on the road against the Brooklyn Nets. It has yet to be revealed whether or not Coby White, Kon Knueppel or Grant Williams will be available. Charlotte's home opener takes place two days later, Friday, Oct. 23 against the Atlanta Hawks.
