Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner had one of Week 7’s biggest blunders while commentating on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 7 win over the New Orleans Saints in France. The NFL Network commentator repeatedly referred to Steelers running back Jaylen Warren as “Tyler,” confusing him with Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren during the broadcast.
Even after Warner apologized to the Steelers running back on X, the former NFL quarterback still squabbled with a fan who accused him of disrespecting Warren.
After the Week 7 game, Warner wrote a heartfelt apology to the Steelers standout and even explained that analysis of the Colts tight end had caused the confusion.
“Yes, I called JAYLEN Warren “Tyler” today after calling Colts game & referencing him in today’s game… My bad, so sorry… it’s stinks as an announcer when you do that & unfortunately it won’t be my last time bc sometimes u just react & misspeak! I own it… and JAYLEN was awesome today, so hopefully I gave him enough LOVE at other times!!” Warner posted.
Jaylen finished the game against the Saints with 101 rushing yards on 18 carries and has amassed 561 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 102 carries for the Steelers this season, earning a PFN’s NFL Running Back Impact grade of 85.1 (No. 5 in the NFL).
On the other hand, Tyler Warren was ruled out with a groin injury for the Colts’ 16-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings later that day.
On Monday, a fan slammed the Super Bowl MVP for his gaffe, accusing him of being disrespectful to the running back. “Was incredibly disrespectful. Do better,” the fan criticized.
Warner, who had already owned up to his mistake, immediately hit back at the fan with a scathing comment on X.
“It’s not disrespectful if it unintentional!!! On, man, so weak!! It’s called a mistake… they happen, even if we don’t want them to! Relax & quite TRYING to be offended!” Warner replied.
After a stellar NFL career, during which he earned four Pro Bowl nods, two First-team All-Pro selections, two NFL MVP Awards and a Super Bowl MVP Award, Warner joined the NFL Network as an analyst in 2010.
The former Arizona Cardinals quarterback contributes to NFL Network programming and coverage of events such as the NFL Draft and the Scouting Combine, while also serving as an analyst for select regular-season games.
Warner is also a studio analyst on the “NFL GameDay Morning” show and serves as a color commentator and game analyst for certain regular-season and international series games for the network.
