Rangers are set to be impacted as the SPFL are launching a tender process for the UK live broadcasting rights of the Scottish Premiership.
The current deal, which includes Sky Sports, Premier Sports and the BBC for highlights and radio, runs until the end of the 2028/29 season.
For the new deal, the SPFL are understood to be more flexible about the number of games being shown and are inviting broadcasters to share their preferences.

Broadcast revenue is a major driver of income to the clubs and the higher that teams finish, the larger their slice of overall revenue is. In recent years, champions of Scotland have made £4.5m-5.5m from this, and the new deal could see them making even more. Rangers will be targeting the title every year and would benefit from the revised revenue-sharing system with an enlarged pot.
More games on more platforms would increase visibility for Rangers and all their commercial partners as well. They are, along with Celtic, the biggest attention-drivers to the Scottish Premiership and will undoubtedly have more games shown live on TV. The Light Blues do seem to be Sky Sports’ pick more often than not, and that is only a good thing for all parties.
The Gers have been critical in the past about the SPFL processes that undervalued the league’s worth by not testing the market. This process of tenders aligns with what the club have previously advocated for.
As things stand, it is unclear what the numbers will look like as the tenders are not yet in, but it is a positive for Rangers and the other Scottish clubs.
