Titans Beat Out 5 NFL Teams to Land Former Raiders Defensive Tackle
Caleb Williams Lands On Cover Of Madden NFL 27

The Tennessee Titans agreed to trade All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears in a blockbuster move on Thursday. The Bears gave up two first-round picks and a fourth-round pick, while Tennessee sent back Simmons along with a fifth-rounder.

But one day before making that trade, the Titans claimed another defensive tackle off waivers: Jonah Laulu, who was waived by the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Laulu had quite the market, with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans all showing interest as well. But thanks to their 1-6 record, Tennessee had the highest waiver priority.

Laulu is a 26-year-old tackle who was selected by the Colts in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft after a long college career split between Hawaii and Oklahoma. Las Vegas picked him up soon after Indianapolis waived him during his rookie training camp, and he went on to play 39 games (22 starts) for the Raiders. Over the last three seasons, he's put up 91 total tackles (40 solo), 11 tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, eight pass deflections, and 5.5 sacks.

However, his role in Vegas had diminished this year, appearing in just five games without a single start. He was also a healthy scratch for two games, missing contests against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, recording just five total tackles and three quarterback hits on the season. He'll now look to build a more established role in Tennessee.

The Titans are 1-6 heading into Week 8 and are coming off a narrow 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns. They next face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, followed by games against Jacksonville and Dallas. They need to turn their season around fast to avoid finishing at the bottom of the league for a second straight year.

Laulu can't replace a star like Simmons, but he gives Tennessee another option in the rotation as the team looks toward the future. And with several teams claiming him, the Titans clearly weren't the only ones who saw something in him either.
