The result left Crystal Palace in the relegation zone after nine matches, with just two wins. The Frenchman called it a ‘disaster’ for the Eagles but vowed to turn things around.

Sage was quick to defend his side post match, saying that he ‘didn’t want to put the responsibility on the players today. I'm responsible’

“I'm not comfortable with the situation on the table, but it's a consequence of what we did badly on the pitch, and my only action is on the team and on the pitch.”

“That's why I can't speak about the situation of the club in the table [separate from] my situation because it's a consequence of this, but my only way to change things is on the pitch, and that's why I told the players I want to be the first on the pitch on Monday.

“They can trust in me; I will never give up. I will do the best session I can do on Monday because now I have the chance to train more, because the game I saw this evening is not in line with my conviction and I don't like when we led the initiative too much to the opponent.”

“I don't like this situation because I have to respect the fans. I have to respect the history of the club.

“When you wear this jersey, when you wear this badge, you have to give your best on the pitch because the history is really heavy on this club, and we have to be in line with that.”

“They can trust in me because I will give my life for that. You know, I'm the kind of person who never gives up.”

Sage’s commitment came after a game against Tottenham, which he admitted became harder following the red card.
