The Boston Celtics have traded for, signed, and drafted players from nearly every U.S. state and countries across the globe. From Alabama to Yugoslavia, the Celtics have a history of thoroughly seeking talent to succeed in the NBA.
Since their beginnings in the Basketball Association of America (a precursor league of the NBA) in the earliest years of the Association, the organization has tirelessly searched for talent since its inception.
In this installment of our series documenting the origins of every player who has represented the Celtics, we will focus on players from Arizona who have played for Boston.
Our focus in this article is Jerryd Bayless. An alum of Arizona, he was picked up with the 2008 overall selection of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers.
The Phoenix, Arizona native played the first 2 seasons of his pro career with the Portland Trail Blazers instead. He also played for the (then) New Orleans Hornets (now, Pelicans), Toronto Raptors, and Memphis Grizzlies before he was dealt to the Celtics in 2014. His stay with the team lasted until he signed a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks that summer.
During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Bayless put up 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
