Haas F1 team principal Ayao Komatsu has given an update on when he will confirm his drivers for the 2027 season.

Along with Racing Bulls and Cadillac, Haas are the only team whose 2027 driver partnership is still far from certain.

Recently, they confirmed that Esteban Ocon would be leaving the team, before then announcing that F2 series leader and Ferrari development driver Rafael Camara would make his F1 debut for them next term.

The second seat does appear likely to go to another Ferrari academy product in Ollie Bearman, with the young Brit having impressed up against the experienced Ocon.

The British star has scored 23 of the team's points and is still being closely monitored by Ferrari should Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc leave the team.

Haas still undecided on 2027 F1 drivers

Yet despite all that, Bearman's position at Haas has still not been confirmed for next season.

During the first practice session for this Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix, Komatsu was asked on Sky Sports F1 if 'there was a danger' of him keeping Bearman to race alongside Camara.

Komatsu replied: "Any danger that we might want him next year? Yeah, I think so. There's lots of danger that we want him next year. Yes."

Asked on when an announcement could be expected, Komatsu added: "Soon, roughly soon."

"Sorry, I cannot say this. It's just all on the contractual side. But honestly, I don't see any issues getting done for sure.”

Komatsu states Haas are not a Ferrari B team

As well as running two Ferrari contracted drives and running Ferrari technical equipment and engines, Haas have been accused of being a B team for the Italian outfit.

However, this is something Komatsu firmly denies, when quizzed on if he was pressured to sign Camara.

"At no point Ferrari pressurised us," Komatsu said recently.

"'Can you take Rafa because he's gonna be in F2 and he really needs to be in Formula One.' None of that, you know.

"It's we who choose the driver by ourselves completely by myself and Mr Gene Haas. So it's a yes, they are FDA (Ferrari Driver Academy) drivers.

"Their career has been supported by Ferrari, but they are Haas F1 drivers, and we are under no obligation or pressure to take anyone from Ferrari. So that Ferrari B-Team thing is just non even a starter."

The situation at Haas of course took a new twist on Saturday in Mexico City, with the team deciding to replace Ocon for the remainder of the weekend and giving an F1 debut to 32-year-old rookie Ryo Hirakawa.
