Two taekwondo players from Inverness came away from a recent competition with medals.
Representing Claire Crosbie TaeKwon-Do Schools, Oscar Crawford and Alena Stirling travelled down to Wishaw to compete in the Dowden’s Martial Arts event earlier this month.
Crawford, who is a first degree black belt, won a bronze medal in his weight division for sparring.
Fellow first degree black belt Alena Stirling doubled up on hardware, winning a bronze medal in patterns but topping the podium to win a gold medal in special technique.
Their success was made all the more remarkable by spending the morning of the competition umpiring, changing at lunch time to get ready to compete themselves.
Both teenagers will be sitting their second degree black belt grading in December, and gain valuable experience by entering competitions that should help them reach the required standard.
Master Crosbie commented: “Oscar has been training with me for nine years, and Alena – my daughter – has been training for almost 15 years after starting at two years old.
“I couldn’t be prouder of how far she has come, and I have the same pride for Oscar as I have seen him grow up too.
“They are amazing role models within the class and make me so proud.”
Master Crosbie has been running taekwondo classes in Inverness for 18 years, and this year marks 35 years in the sport.
She passed her eighth degree grading this past January, and runs classes throughout the week at Green Drive Hall, Crown Scout Hall and Arisaig Hall.
