Kurt Warner found a quick way to get Steelers fans talking during Sunday’s broadcast. Take a shot at the Terrible Towel, and somebody is going to bring up Santonio Holmes.

Sure enough, Pittsburgh supporters went straight to the Super Bowl 43 archives after Warner’s comment about their favorite accessory. James Harrison’s name came up, too. Apparently, those highlights remain readily available whenever needed.

Kurt Warner’s Terrible Towel Remark Gets Pittsburgh Steelers Fans Talking

Warner joined Dave Pasch and Jason Kelce for NFL Network’s coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game against the New Orleans Saints at Stade de France. During the broadcast, Pittsburgh radio host Andrew Fillipponi flagged a remark from the Hall of Fame quarterback.

“I hate those Terrible Towels,” Warner said, according toFillipponi’s post.

That was enough to send the replies in a predictable direction. Warner quarterbacked the Arizona Cardinals against Pittsburgh in Super Bowl 43, a game the Steelers won 27-23. For the fans responding, the connection practically wrote itself.

“Super Bowl 43 PTSD!”one fan wrote.

Another supporter questioned whether Warner was keeping his personal feelings out of the broadcast.

“For real.. he could at least hide his bias,”another fan wrote.

Those were viewers’ interpretations of the comment. The remark alone does not establish that Warner’s analysis was influenced by his history against Pittsburgh, though it certainly gave Steelers fans an opening to revisit that history.

“That surprised you? Dude lost to them in the Superbowl. 😂,”another fan added.

One response named the two Steelers most associated with Arizona’s heartbreak that night.

“james harrison and santonio holmes haunt his dreams, and that brings me joy,”one fan wrote.

Steelers Fans Have Plenty of History Behind That Towel

Harrison intercepted Warner near the goal line and returned the ball 100 yards for a touchdown to end the first half of Super Bowl 43. Holmes later caught Ben Roethlisberger’s winning touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining, securing Pittsburgh’s sixth championship.

Those moments explain why fans reached for those names so quickly. Warner’s Cardinals came agonizingly close to winning, and Pittsburgh supporters have spent years celebrating the plays that denied them.

The towel itself carries a much longer history. Broadcaster Myron Cope introduced the tradition in 1975, encouraging fans to bring yellow towels to a playoff game against the Baltimore Colts. It became one of the franchise’s most recognizable symbols.

Warner also drew attention during Sunday’s game for a separate issue, repeatedly mixing up Jaylen Warren with Colts tight end Tyler Warren. Thatname mix-up drew its own criticism as viewers followed Pittsburgh’s offense.

On the field, the Steelers gave their traveling supporters a happier topic to discuss. Pittsburgh beat New Orleans 16-10, improving to 5-2 and earning the first regular-season NFL victory in France.

Warner is entitled to dislike the towels. Steelers fans, armed with another win and a very familiar collection of Super Bowl highlights, clearly enjoyed telling him why they thought he did.
