Cameron Carter-Vickers will miss Celtic’s next two matches as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The centre-back was absent for last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Motherwell and Thursday night’s Europa League encounter with Benfica, with Dane Murray starting both games.
Martin O’Neill has now told Sky Sports that Carter-Vickers will not be available for Sunday’s Premiership meeting with Hearts at Celtic Park.
All the Celtic team news and injuries are collected in one place.
The American international is also expected to sit out Thursday night’s Europa League clash with Celta Vigo.
O’Neill has identified next Sunday’s trip to Easter Road to face Hibernian as the earliest Carter-Vickers could return. That remains a target rather than a guarantee, with Celtic unlikely to take any unnecessary chances with a hamstring problem.
His continued absence is a blow for O’Neill during a demanding run of fixtures. Celtic conceded four goals in Lisbon on Thursday, with the manager now having to prepare his defence for a Hearts side capable of punishing any further mistakes.
Murray has been trusted to fill the gap alongside Liam Scales, while Auston Trusty is also available after recovering from the illness which restricted his involvement against Motherwell.
There will also be no reunion between Carter-Vickers and his former defensive partner Carl Starfelt on Thursday.
Carter-Vickers and Starfelt formed a formidable partnership during their time together at Celtic, but both are now set to watch Thursday’s European meeting from the sidelines.
