Michael Carrick has arrived at Carrington but it remains unclear whether he will take Manchester United training on Tuesday morning.
Carrick arrived at Carrington at 7.30am on Tuesday, which follows his usual routine in just over nine months in the job as United head coach.
His players are also set to report back on Tuesday morning for the first training session of the week, but as of Monday evening, club officials were unable to confirm whether Carrick would be taking training.
But the 45-year-old arrived in his training kit on Tuesday and at least gave the impression he would be in charge as he drove through the gates at Carrington.
The confusion follows a day of crisis talks on Monday that appear to have failed to reach a conclusion over Carrick's future. It was widely expected he would be sacked after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
That followed the Champions League hammering in Como in midweek and means United are now without a win in eight games in all competitions and have won just two of their first 12 games this season.
Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox arrived at Carrington just before 9am on Monday. Carrick then arrived at 1.50pm to watch the Under-21s play Hull City in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Carrick watched the 2pm kick-off and then left the training ground with son Jacey, who is in the academy, at 5pm, around half an hour after Wilcox had departed.
Despite all the activity on Monday, there was no firm decision on Carrick's future and it left United in the remarkable predicament of being unable to confirm who would take training.
