It is sadly the case that the vast majority of people who play this great game never get to enjoy the feeling of making a hole in one.
Making an ace is not easy, even for the very best players in the world. Tiger Woods has not made a hole in one on the PGA Tour this century.
And yet, there are a handful of players who have made two holes in one in the same PGA Tour tournament over the years.
The very first came back in 1946, with the player involved ultimately finishing 15 shots adrift of the eventual winner, Byron Nelson.
Jim Ferrier initially made his name as one of the best amateurs in Australia. He moved to the United States in 1940 before turning professional one year later after being refused entry into the US Amateur.
Heading into 1946, Ferrier had not finished inside the top-10 in any of his appearances at The Masters, the US Open, or The Open Championship. At that stage, he had not played in the PGA Championship.
His one victory on the PGA Tour by that point had come in 1944 at the Oakland Open.

Do you think Jackson Koivun is more likely to win his first major than Brooks Koepka is to win his sixth next year? 🤔
Two years later, at the Victory Bond San Francisco Open, Ferrier made holes in one in both the first and final round. Remarkably, he was still some way back of Nelson.
In fairness, Nelson – who won the event for a third time in a row – finished nine shots clear of his closest rival at Olympic Club.
Ferrier would go on to make further history the following year at the PGA Championship.
The 32-year-old became the first Australian to win a major with a 2&1 victory in the final at Plum Hollow in Michigan.
Incredibly, the format required the two finalists to play 12 rounds of golf across seven days. Initially, the field played two rounds of strokeplay, with the top 63 going through to the matchplay rounds. Defending champion Ben Hogan also went through.
Ferrier defeated the previous year’s US Open champion, Lloyd Mangrum in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, he trailed for much of the first 18 holes of the final against Chick Harbert.
However, he took the lead in the early stages of the second round and went on to win and secure a first major title.
While Ferrier would not lift another major, he did win another 16 times on the PGA Tour, with his final victory coming in 1961.
