Chelsea Injury News And Return Dates: Updates On Jordan Henderson, Emi Martinez & 5 Others

Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson missed the 2-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend due to illness.

Manager Xabi Alonso says that the 36-year-old was suffering from a fever on the morning of the game, so there was no chance of him featuring. Henderson is, though, expected to be in contention for the Blues’ last game before the international break this weekend.

Expected Return Date – Sunday 8th November vs Sunderland (a)

Emi Martinez

Alonso has expressed some optimism that the Argentinian international will make his comeback from a broken jaw sooner than expected:

“Yes, there is a chance [he could play before the international break]. We need to still wait for the next week, but let’s see how things go. But there is a chance.”

Jorrel Hato

The Dutchman’s fitness status remains unclear. He has not played in Chelsea’s last two games against Liverpool (in the Carabao Cup) and Manchester United.

Alonso has not provided any further detail on when Hato could make his comeback.

Joao Pedro

Joao Pedro and Reece James

The Brazilian international has been ruled out for several weeks with a thigh injury.

There is hope that Pedro will be back available for the first match after the international break later this month.

Expected Return Date – Saturday 21st November vs Leeds (h)

Maxence Lacroix

The centre-back pulled his hamstring in the Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool last week, and speaking about the prognosis, Alonso said:

“We expect that he’s not going to be ready before the international break, so he will be a few weeks out.”

Expected Return Date – Saturday 21st November vs Leeds (h)

Jamie Gittens

The winger appears to be in the same boat as Pedro and Lacroix, although there is a chance we could see him back in training this week.

Gittens has not featured since sustaining an ankle injury whilst playing for England’s Under 21s.

Expected Return Date – November

Reece James

The captain underwent surgery on a knee injury last month, which will rule him out until the New Year.

James sustained the problem during a training session prior to the win over Bournemouth.
