NFL Hot Seat Watch Week 7: Cowboys’ Brian Schottenheimer, Texans’ DeMeco Ryans, Jets’ Aaron Glenn Under Growing Scrutiny

As in most seasons, the teams at the bottom of the league keep losing, while the head coaches’ hot seats only get hotter. Moves are bound to happen at some point, and we have already seen a general manager get fired, so maybe a head coach move is next.

Here are some names that could be next on the chopping block:

Brian Schottenheimer, Dallas Cowboys

To start the list, we have Brian Schottenheimer, even though the Dallas Cowboys are not playing just yet. They will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, a very winnable game with Jalen Hurts out, but the Cowboys’ defense has really struggled this year.

According to PFN’s Defensive Impact Metric, the Cowboys rank last in the league, and that’s very disappointing after going into the offseason with the goal of improving that side of the ball.

The offense has done fine, but one more loss to the Cowboys’ 2-4 could be horrible news for Schottenheimer because Jerry Jones may not waste time.

DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have had a very interesting time since hiring DeMeco Ryans as head coach, with some highs and some lows. With changes being made, this season was supposed to be one where the Texans fight for first place in the AFC South, but that’s not happening. The offense has been better, while the defense, which is Ryan’s specialty, has taken a step back.

Finishing near the bottom of the division could lead to a new head coach taking over the Texans in 2027.

Shane Steichen, Indianapolis Colts

After firing GM Chris Ballard, Steichen’s seat immediately became the hottest in the NFL, and he needed to turn the results around fast. Going up against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, the odds were low for a win, but the Colts only lost by 6 points in Week 7. Not bad, but not a win.

Next week will be huge for the Colts. A win over Jacksonville would pull Indianapolis closer to the AFC South lead.

Aaron Glenn, New York Jets

Remember when I mentioned some of the bad teams winning against each other? Well, that’s what happened to the New York Jets. Against the winless Miami Dolphins, the Jets couldn’t get the job done, losing 28-25.

This was a very winnable game that should have been the Jets’ third win. Instead, head coach Aaron Glenn’s seat only got hotter.

Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers

Being on a bye week, the Los Angeles Chargers should have been safe, but instead, they were officially the only winless team in the NFL.

This season has been horrible for the Chargers, but being the clear worst team in the NFL proves change is needed soon, especially since a win doesn’t look likely.

Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles

On the other side of that Monday Night Football matchup, head coach Nick Sirianni must overcome his QB being out and win against the Cowboys. The Eagles should be competing in the NFC, but even when Hurts was healthy, it was clear the team would not have a great season.

With the confusion surrounding Hurts’ blood clot diagnosis and the way it was handled, Sirianni’s spot on the coaching staff is very much up in the air.

Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Being last in the NFC South is always a horrible outcome that should result in changes, but good news for Todd Bowles: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just won their way to third place.

In surprising fashion, the Bucs completely dominated the first-place Carolina Panthers, and although it doesn’t save Bowles’ job, it may give him some leeway, especially after Baker Mayfield’s return.

Dan Quinn, Washington Commanders

Like the Chargers, the Washington Commanders are on their bye week, and it seems no moves will be made at head coach just yet. However, the clock is ticking because the Commanders are in last place in the NFC East.

The good news is that the last game was a decent one for Washington, as they almost beat the then-undefeated San Francisco 49ers.

Kellen Moore, New Orleans Saints

Last, and maybe least, we have New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore. With so much hope entering the offseason and heavy investment in offense, the Saints were supposed to take a step forward in 2026 and fight for first place in the division. Instead, the offense is relying on second-year QB Tyler Shough to do basically everything, and it’s not going well.

Moore was under pressure to turn this team around, and although they beat the New York Giants last week, they needed to win in Paris against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they didn’t. Although owner Gayle Benson may not make a change during their bye week, it could come soon after.
