‘Just Makes Too Much Sense,’ ‘It’s Happening, Isn’t It?’ — NFL World Speculates on Vikings Landing Daniel Jones After Latest Rumors

The NFL trade rumors are heating up, and Daniel Jones is quickly becoming one of the biggest names to watch.

After reports emerged from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the Indianapolis Colts had received trade inquiries about the quarterback, fans and analysts have started speculating about his next destination. Much of the attention is now on the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL World Reacts to Daniel Jones-Vikings Trade Rumors

According to Schefter and Rapoport, the Colts had engaged in trade discussions involving Jones after receiving inquiries from multiple teams. However, later Saturday, Tom Pelissero reported that Indianapolis had told interested teams it was not trading Jones, adding a significant update to the quarterback’s trade situation ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

“The Colts have received calls from multiple teams inquiring about trading for Jones, who is slated to start Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis has been willing to listen to any offers, according to league sources,” Schefter and Rapoport reported.

The news comes as the Colts continue to struggle at 2-6, raising further questions about the team’s plans for its quarterback room.

The report quickly sparked reactions across the NFL community, with several analysts and media personalities pointing to Minnesota as a possible landing spot for Jones.

Tony Vegas wrote, “I’m telling you this is gonna be to the Vikings.”

NFL Draft analyst Josh Taylor also suggested that a move could be coming, saying, “Told y’all last Thursday that the Vikings called about Daniel Jones. I think it happens.”

Meanwhile, the Colts Film Room channel believes Jones’ time in Indianapolis could be coming to an end. “Even if the Colts don’t get a trade done with Daniel Jones on Tuesday, it’s absolutely over. You just don’t come back from this. Find it near impossible to think he’s the starting QB next year or even in a few weeks,” the channel posted.

Sports analyst Max Loeb shared a brief reaction, writing, “It’s happening, isn’t it?”

Colts Unplugged co-host Ati Oberoi also believes Minnesota makes too much sense for the quarterback.

“Daniel Jones to the Vikings, at this point, just makes too much sense. They wanted him to stay back in 2025, before he chose Indy. Seems like his chapter in Indy will close after Sunday. I do think he’ll have more success in Minnesota, they actually have weapons at WR,” Oberoi wrote.

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel also had a simple response to the growing speculation: “Vikings.”

NFL Draft analyst Destin Adams added to the conversation with a post reading, “Soon Daniel,” accompanied by a GIF suggesting a move to Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. Analyst Josh Norris also joined in, posting a GIF of a Viking warrior blowing a war horn.

Why a Daniel Jones-Vikings Reunion Makes Sense

Minnesota has plenty of reasons to consider adding Jones, who ranks 32nd in PFN’s NFL QB Impact Rankings with a grade of 64.8. Despite getting off to a strong 6-1 start, the Vikings have faced questions about their quarterback situation.

Starter Kyler Murray is dealing with a hamstring strain, forcing veteran backup Carson Wentz to start Monday night against the Buffalo Bills.

There is also some familiarity between Jones and Minnesota’s coaching staff. He spent the latter part of the 2024 season on the Vikings’ practice squad, and O’Connell was reportedly interested in keeping him before he chose to sign with Indianapolis.

A return to Minnesota would give him another chance to work with O’Connell while joining an offense with plenty of talent in the receiving corps, including superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, tight end T.J. Hockenson, and wide receiver Jordan Addison.
