Khamzat Chimaev eyes Strickland vs. Imavov winner in UFC return: 'I'm the real champion'

Khamzat Chimaev is ready to fight whenever the UFC offers him something.

Chimaev (15-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) hasn't competed since losing his middleweight title to Sean Strickland by split decision at UFC 328 – an outcome Chimaev considers debatable. Chimaev has since called for a rematch, then listed several top contenders he'd be willing to fight, but he's yet to hear back.

"Hopefully very soon, but it's not about me right now," Chimaev told MMA Junkie. "Whenever the UFC calls me and they ask are you ready to fight, I'll fight anyone."

Strickland (31-7 MMA, 18-7 UFC) is expected to run things back with Nassourdine Imavov, but their matchup has been delayed after Strickland spoke out on his discontent with pay.

"He's always crying about something, so I'm just being ready," Chimaev said of Strickland. "I don't know what's going to happen. Maybe the UFC wants me to face the winner of the fight, so I just want to take my belt back very soon. If it happens soon, I'm going to fight soon, as well."

Chimaev has kept active through wrestling as he challenges Colby Covington for the RAF cruiserweight crossover title in the Nov. 14 main event at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. As for what's next, Chimaev thinks he should be rewarded with an immediate opportunity to reclaim his belt.

"It should be the winner because I'm the No. 1 contender, and I didn't lose that match," Chimaev said. "People say I lost the match, but I'm the real champion."
