The Texans had a chance to head into their bye week on a three-game winning streak, but they couldn’t score any points to open overtime against the Giants and their run defense broke down as the visitors rolled to a game-winning touchdown by former Texan Devin Singletary.
The loss dropped the Texans to 2-5, which is not where the team was projected to be given the preseason expectations in Houston and elsewhere. It does not sound like the disappointing start to the year is going to lead to any rash reactions from General Manager Nick Caserio.
At a press conference on Monday, Caserio said the team is “not going to make significant changes to personnel” before the offseason and that they aren’t going to make “knee-jerk reactions” in the wake of their latest loss. Caserio said the solution is to “play more consistent football” than they’ve been able to play thus far.
“Some of our good players, our better players, probably haven’t played how they’re capable of. That’s just the reality,” Caserio said.
Caserio didn’t name any names, but he highlighted penalties and tackling as areas where the Texans have been particularly poor through seven games. It’s unclear how much those things will change in the middle of the season, but it’s clear the Texans won’t wind up where they want to go if they stay the same.
