David Warner unleashes on 'deplorable' and 'disgraceful' Australia players in rant after South Africa collapse

David Warner has made his feelings perfectly clear on Australia's batting line-up after they were bowled out for just 111 in the fourth innings of their third and final Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Australia started day five needing 288 to win the third Test and secure a 2-1 series win, but lost Matt Renshaw and Marnus Labuschagne in the first over of their chase.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, and Australia stopped scoring altogether at one stage as they went 12.5 overs without a single run.

Cameron Green's dismissal for 27, having batted for over two hours, was the end of Australia's resistance from the batters, though Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon dug in after lunch to help take the score up beyond 100. It perhaps summed up Australia's display that Lyon, who scored 33 off 57 balls including six boundaries, ended up being the top scorer of the innings.

'It is deplorable...' - David Warner lambasts Australia batters over day five display

There will be repercussions for this Australia side after their series defeat, having gone 1-0 up after a superb battling performance in the first Test in Durban.

It was Renshaw who was his side's hero on that occasion, scoring an aggregate total of 272 runs in the Test. He was moved back to open the batting in Cape Town after Nic Maddinson was dropped, and hit an important 74 in the first innings as well as combining for a third-wicket partnership of 126 with Green.

But Renshaw tickled a Kagiso Rabada delivery down the leg-side on day five to depart for a golden duck, with wicket-keeper Ryan Rickelton taking a simple catch.

Warner criticised his fellow opener's dismissal, but took aim at the batting line-up as a whole by describing them as 'deplorable'.

"I am just upset," Warner said on FOX Sports. "It's terrible. It's un-Australian. It's disgraceful.

"Yes, Renshaw got burgled down the leg side... 288 [target], you're winning a Test match and you could win a series, and this is the way they are playing. I think it's deplorable.

"The batters have let the bowlers down the whole series. I think the batters have been disgraceful, utterly disgraceful."

Warner had earlier predicted that Australia would have a 'big chance' of winning the Test match if they had lost a maximum of two wickets by the lunch break. In the event, they lost seven.

He also said he was 'pencilling in' the under-pressure Labuschagne for a century. The 32-year-old had scored four runs - an edged boundary past the slips - off two deliveries when he left alone a full delivery from Kagiso Rabada delivery which was adjudged to be clipping off stump. He was given out on field, with DRS sticking with the umpires' decision.

His decision to leave appeared to be one of a player bereft of confidence at the crease - and his place in Australia's Test XI must now be in serious doubt.
