Former Aston Villa and England striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Arsenal will “100%” sell Viktor Gyokeres next year amid significant transfer speculation.
Article continues under the videoThe Sweden international joined Mikel Arteta’s side from Sporting CP for €65.8 million last summer and he scored 21 goals in 55 games across all competitions during his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.
However, he has fallen down the pecking order this term and it was widely reported that Arsenal were open to a possible sale over the summer, with the club eager to finalise a deal with Atletico Madrid for Julian Alvarez.
The Argentina forward eventually rejected the chance to return to the Premier League, with Gyokeres remaining at Arsenal as a result.
Despite this, rumours indicate that a sale will be considered in 2027 and Agbonlahor believes that Arsenal are guaranteed to part ways with the 28-year-old next summer.
Speaking to talkSPORT after Gyokeres’ first Premier League start of the season versus Everton on Saturday, Agbonlahor said: “Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ. Looks like he’s like running in slow motion, isn’t he? Looks like he can’t run.
“Can he hold the ball up? Yes, he can, but he will be one that won’t be at the club next season. Yeah, 100%.
“They would have got rid of him this season if they could have for Alvarez. If Alvarez wanted to come and hadn’t turned Arsenal down, they would have said, ‘I would give you Gyokeres and money’.”
While Arsenal remains huge admirers of Alvarez, a move for the Atleti superstar seems highly unlikely, especially as Barcelona are expected to rekindle their interest in his signature next year.
Bournemouth attacker Eli Junior Kroupi has been earmarked as a possible alternative, following an excellent first season in England last year, while the club are believed to be keeping close tabs on the progress of Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane.
In addition, Arsenal are also firmly in the race to sign Nicolo Tresoldi, who has scored 12 goals in just 14 matches for Club Brugge so far this term, including a hat-trick versus Sint-Truidense VV on Sunday.
