Lisbie Haunts Derby County In 4:1 Halloween Win

The Lions went into this game unchanged from their 2:1 loss against Portsmouth and needed a win to keep pace with the teams around them. Victories for Norwich City and Sheffield United had pushed Alex Neil's side down to 14th before kick off and with the play-off places slowly running away from them only a victory would do against the side 23rd in the table.

Millwall were the quickest starters of the game, racing out of the blocks and taking an early lead. Within three minutes Kyrell Lisbie had gotten himself on the scoresheet, Lyndon Dykes in the middle playing the ball out wide to the winger who cut inside and slotted home in the bottom right corner. The shot took a deflection off of David Ozoh in the Derby defence but wasn't enough to guide it away from goal.

The home side weren't done yet, taking a two goal lead just minutes later thanks to Lisbie yet again. A less than dangerous corner saw the ball go back out to Camiel Neghli who swung a cross in, flicked on by Caleb Taylor for Lisbie to knock it into the goal for his second of the afternoon. Jacob Zetterstrom was in no place to stop it and no defenders were anywhere near Lisbie to keep his shot out.

Embarrassingly Derby would go 3:0 down by 17 minutes, a hopeful long ball finding Neghli who played a pass straight down the middle, no defenders in sight to stop Luke Cundle from placing his shot calmly around the goalkeeper for a convincing and surely insurmountable lead.

The second half struggled to get into any rhythm, a combination of petty fouls and wasteful chance taking slowing any early momentum for either side. Derby desperately needed an early goal to give themselves any hope of coming back into the game, but a wasted Rhian Brewster chance aside they failed to give themselves a fighting chance.

Millwall looked bright themselves but were just as wasteful, often getting into great positions with Lisbie but unable to take their chances. There was room for a few more goals but the target was rarely found.

The second half may have been going slowly but the fourth would come for Millwall thanks to captain Jake Cooper. Some tidy possession play around the box let Derby get as many men as possible behind the ball, but a simple pass down the left to substitute Alfie Doughty left an open cutback to the captain who tapped home for a rather embarrassing result as far as the away side were concerned.

Derby weren't to go home empty handed and would grab a consolation just a minute later thanks to a parried shot from range from Oscar Fraulo landing at the feet of Filip Bilbija who just had to hit the target, but it was Millwall who had clearly been the better side and the one deserving of the three points.
