Yaxel Lendeborg has hit the ground running with the Golden State Warriors. The rookie forward has started all eight of the Warriors' games to begin the season, averaging 21.5 points, 7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per night. He's shooting 58.1% from two-point range and 40% from deep on 6.3 attempts per night.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, speaking via a recent appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show,' Lendeborg is already playing at an All-Star level, despite being so early into his NBA career.
"Yaxel is the real deal," Charania said. "He's changed their entire outlook this year. I mean, the fact that he's been able to come in and already be a #1 option. I mean, he's playing like an All-Star already right off the bat. There hasn't been an All-Star as a rookie since Blake Griffin. Yaxel, right now, the way he's leading this team, I don't think anyone could've expected this, and so he's been dominant, honestly. I was watching the game the other night when he had 37 points, this guy is already turning heads in Golden State and he's changed their entire trajectory."
Lendeborg is quickly proving to be one of the steals of the draft. Golden State selected him with the 11th overall pick, and they have clearly found a legitimate building block for the future. The encouraging part is that Steve Kerr believes Lendeborg can still improve his game in a multitude of ways.
As Lendeborg continues to improve, and Stephen Curry continues to age, it's likely that, at some point in the coming years, Lendeborg becomes the Warriors' go-to option on offense. He's already proving himself capable, and in turn, rewriting the narrative about Golden State's ability to both draft and develop talent.
