OAKWELL ROUND-UP: Trophy exit, cup draw and loan goal

Some Barnsley FC related stories as the season gets back in full swing following the international break.

Barnsley are preparing for their first home league game in almost a month when they welcome Cambridge United to Oakwell on Saturday from 3pm.

The Reds are 19th in League One, outside the relegation zone on goal difference, having taken only one point from their last four league games with three goals scored and 12 conceded.

Newly-promoted Cambridge are fifth with 16 points, double Barnsley’s tally, and unbeaten in seven in all competitions.

It is the first of three games across a week with trips to Luton and Reading to follow.

REDS OUT OF TROPHY

BARNSLEY are out of EFL Trophy with one game to play.

Oldham Athletic’s win over Leeds United under 21s on Tuesday means the Latics are top with six points while Leeds and Fleetwood Town have three.

Leeds and Fleetwood face each other in their final game so Barnsley, who have no points, cannot catch them both and finish in one of the two places to qualify for the knock-out stages.

The Reds are due to host Oldham on November 10, having lost 4-1 at Fleetwood last week and 4-3 at home to Leeds a fortnight earlier.

AWAY WIN FOR U18S

BARNSLEY under 18s won 2-1 at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Marli Hicken-Smith and Charlie Rodgers netted after the hosts took the lead.

The under 18s are due to host Huddersfield Town on Friday from 1pm.

Barnsley under 21s lost 2-0 at home to Hull City. They are now due to visit Fleetwood Town on Tuesday.

REDS TO FIND OUT FA CUP OPPONENTS

BARNSLEY will discover their opponents for the first round of the FA Cup in the coming days.

The final qualifying round is due to take place over the weekend with the draw to follow.

League One and League Two teams then join the competition for the first round on November 6-8.

MIXED WEEK FOR BARNSLEY LOANEES

LEO FARRELL came off the bench to score on his debut for Altrincham in their 3-1 win at home to Aldershot Town on Saturday.

The 20-year-old was loaned out to the National League club on Friday having struggled to impress Daniel Stendel this season.

Connor Barratt played for Galway United in their FAI Cup semi-final loss to Derry City

Georgie Gent started for Boston United in their 2-1 home loss to Southend United in the National League on Saturday.

Charlie Lennon was an unused substitute in a 6-0 win for Yeovil at Wealdstone.
