Michael Bisping makes extreme intervention after son brutally knocked out in amateur MMA fight

Michael Bisping has shared his thoughts on his son's viral amateur MMA loss, revealing that he's stepping in to help following the brutal finish.

During a recent amateur mixed martial arts bout in Los Angeles, Callum Bisping, the son of Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer and England's first champion Michael Bisping, suffered his first defeat in brutal fashion.

Footage of Callum being stopped by second-round technical knockout quickly went viral online and now Michael has spoken out to explain exactly how both he and his son feel about the loss, revealing that Callum has made a major career decision.

Michael Bisping reveals son's shock career decision after devastating loss

Callum, a former NCAA Division II wrestler, was competing in his third fight as an amateur when he suffered his first loss at the hands of John McCain.

Not long after the loss, footage quickly circulated on social media, with fans claiming the knockout was reminiscent of his dad's infamous knockout loss to rival Dan Henderson at UFC 100.

"My son had an amateur fight last week and it didn't go his way and now everyone's talking s***. The amount of abuse that he got and that I got on social media," Bisping lamented on the latest episode of his Believe You Me Podcast.

Bisping has regularly expressed reservations about Callum becoming a fighter, saying he is far too intelligent to risk his health in the octagon.

For this reason, and to avoid situations similar to the backlash he received for the loss, Callum had decided to not train with his dad ahead of his first three amateur fights.

However, following the loss, Callum has made the surprise call to make a big step up and pursue a professional career, and he's bringing in his dad to help him.

"He wants to forge his own path, so he wasn't asking for my help. He was trying to do it all by himself which, to a certain degree, I respect that," Bisping added.

"But then when that happened I was like 'right, ok, are you going to let me help you?' So he's been training all last week.

"When he's done with college he's going to get a job so he's just training to compete but now after losing like that, now he wants to fight pro, which is crazy.

"But I was like 'if you want to do this for a little bit, let me help you, let me take you by the reigns'."

But Bisping isn't going to make it easy for Callum, as he went on to offer a brutally honest review of his amateur career so far.

Bisping said: "He was a college wrestler, he got a scholarship, he's got good wrestling and he thought he could just rely on that and wrestle his way through."

Later adding: "He half-a**ed it and got away with it a few times, I guess I was nonchalant allowing him to do his own thing, he was trying to do it all by himself.

"I get it, he doesn't want to live in his dad's shadow. But he's learned from it, he hadn't held pads or had any instruction on his striking for years, he just thought he'd use his wrestling."

Michael Bisping admits to embarrassing story during son's amateur fight

Unfortunately for Bisping, watching his son suffer his first loss wasn't the only negative to come from attending the fight event in LA, as he revealed that he was also roped into promoting the new Street Fighter film in an awkward scenario.

He explained that the event had been sponsored by the film, which features UFC featherweight champions Alexander Volkanovski, WWE star Cody Rhodes and several other celebrities, and some of the cast were in attendance watching the fight.

Bisping went on to reveal that, after getting his way into the VIP section to watch his son's fight, he was asked to get a photo with the case to help promote the movie.

"As soon as it (Callum's fight) finished, they were like 'can we get this picture now?' and I'm standing there with the cast of Street Fighter with big cheesy grins while Callum's still in the f***ing octagon.

"He's just had his first loss and I just thought 'I hope to God he doesn't look over right now and see me standing there with the cast of Street Fighter like I don't give a s***, because I very much gave a s***!'"

Thankfully, after some more awkward pleasantries with the cast, Bisping was able to get away and see his son, who he has assured will come back having learned big lessons from his first loss.
