Robinson, Baker have tough talk about the offense

According to the Pewter Report, offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said he and the quarterbacks had a tough conversation Monday about issues in the offense’s passing game. The discussion came after weeks of inconsistent execution, missed opportunities, and a unit that has struggled to produce through the air. Mayfield said the meeting was necessary, emphasizing that players couldn't take the criticism personally. Tampa Bay enters its Week 7 matchup ranked 30th in passing offense, averaging just 164.8 yards per game. The Buccaneers have struggled to sustain drives and capitalize on opportunities, leaving too much responsibility on the running game and a defense repeatedly forced to protect narrow margins. Robinson cannot shoulder every missed assignment or inaccurate throw, but the coordinator is responsible for putting his players in positions to succeed. That means sharpening route concepts, improving timing, and finding ways to generate easier completions instead of asking the offense to consistently win difficult situations.

Mayfield’s return could help stabilize the operation, but it does not absolve Robinson of the issues that surfaced while the quarterback was injured. Tampa Bay needs a passing attack that functions with consistency, not one that depends entirely on its starting quarterback to manufacture solutions when plays break down. Sunday’s matchup with Carolina offers an immediate opportunity to demonstrate progress. The Panthers will challenge the Buccaneers to execute, protect the football, and sustain drives. If Tampa Bay keeps wasting opportunities, the conversation Robinson started will quickly lose its value. The offensive coordinator deserves credit for confronting the problems directly rather than pretending everything is fine. But tough conversations only matter when they lead to better football. At 1-5, the Buccaneers have little room left for another week of familiar mistakes.
