Josh Allen has had a fine start to the 2026/27 season with the Buffalo Bills, who are now 4-1.
The Bills secured a rare overtime win against the Los Angeles Rams in week five to ensure they remain above the New England Patriots (3-2) in the AFC East.
Allen put in another remarkable performance versus the Rams with 210 passing yards and 121 rushing yards. But while their quarterback continues to shine, there have been questions about Buffalo’s defence.
However, even though the Bills are not overly impressive in defence, J.J. Watt still thinks it is possible for them to win a Super Bowl by relying heavily on Allen.
When appearing on The Pat McAfee show this week, Watt was asked: “Can they win a Super Bowl, kind of just putting everything on his [Allen] shoulders? And saying ‘hey listen, we need you to kind of go out there and be Superman week in and week out’. Can’t really make mistakes; defence isn’t the best, although they weren’t terrible. Is this a sustainable way for a team to win a Super Bowl?”
He responded: “I mean, when he plays at that level, absolutely. It’s able to play at that level for a very long time and take the beating, which obviously he’s done for the majority of his career. So there’s no reason not to.
“I do think the defence needs to play better, they know that. Jim Leonhard himself said it. He had one of my favourite quotes this week where I believe he said ‘it’s always great to have Superman as your quarterback but we don’t want to wait until it’s our turn to save the day on defence’.”

The Bills do not have a great historic record in the Super Bowl.
They have made four appearances in the showpiece, last doing so in 1994, but they have never won it.
