Torquay United boss Jimmy Ball says he is pleased with his players' attitude after their 3-0 win at struggling Walton and Hersham.
The Gulls won for just the second time in their past six National League South matches as they moved up to 13th in the division.
Matt Jay gave the Gulls an 18th-minute lead when he lifted the ball over the home goalkeeper.
Cody Cooke got his third goal of the season with 18 minutes left to calm any nerves before Jacob Beaumont-Clark made the three points safe 10 minutes later.
"This is obviously a step in the right direction," said Ball, who slammed his side after their 1-0 loss at AFC Totton on Tuesday.
"It just called on the players for the right mentality in a tough place to come and they did.
"They had the right mentality throughout the game, I thought we passed it well, created plenty of chances.
"A clean sheet was one of the main targets for the group and we thought if we did that and we were solid that things would come.
"I'm just pleased for the players, they got a bit anxious first 15 minutes in the second half, but then they weathered that and then started to rev up again."
