Leeds United’s well-documented struggles in the final third have laid bare a glaring tactical necessity ahead of the January transfer window: Daniel Farke’s side desperately lack creativity and goal threat from attacking midfield.
While recent reports have linked the Whites with Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara and Lyon’s Pavel Sulc, Coventry City star Jack Rudoni represents a target Leeds United have painstakingly evaluated over an extensive period.
Tracked closely by Leeds scouts for over 12 months, according to TEAMtalk, the 25-year-old midfielder – a standout favourite under Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard – is proving he belongs at the highest level during Coventry’s return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

Joe Rodon is edging closer to his Leeds return, but what is your preferred backline once he’s fully fit? 🤔 Give us your back five and reasons why below! ⬇️
Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey first revealed Leeds’ interest in Rudoni back in May 2025, following an outstanding debut campaign at Coventry after joining from Huddersfield Town. The London-born technician registered an impressive 10 goals and 13 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions, immediately placing him on the Leeds recruitment team’s radar.
Rather than a one-season wonder, Rudoni backed up the hype in 2025-26 under Lampard’s tutelage. He produced seven goals and eight assists as Coventry stormed to the Championship title to earn top-flight promotion.
Now, nine games into the Premier League campaign, Rudoni is answering any lingering questions about his ability to step up. Leading Coventry’s fight against relegation, the dynamic midfielder has netted three goals in his last four league outings, demonstrating the clinical edge Farke‘s secondary attack currently lacks.
At Elland Road, summer addition Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been forced to carry an overwhelming share of the goalscoring burden, netting five times in all competitions. Behind him, full-back James Justin is the only other Leeds player to score more than once this term.
Farke’s supporting cast of attacking midfielders – Noah Okafor, Daniel James, Harry Wilson, Brenden Aaronson, and Jean-Matteo Bahoya – have left plenty to be desired, combining for a meagre three goals between them.
Rudoni directly addresses these underlying deficiencies:
Prying a star asset away from a direct top-flight competitor midway through a relegation battle is never straightforward. However, Leeds United have quietly laid the groundwork over the past year.
Crucially, when the window opens in January, Rudoni will enter the final 18 months of his current contract, forcing Coventry into a strategic decision regarding his long-term value in 2027.
With two months of football remaining before the market opens, Leeds will continue to watch closely. But if early top-flight evidence is anything to go by, making a decisive move for Lampard’s key man makes complete sense.
