Tensions are mounting at Manchester United ahead of a potentially critical showdown with Chelsea. Michael Carrick is on wafer thin ice following back-to-back defeats by three-goal margins.
Those results mark the lowest point of a dismal eight-match winless run for United that has left Carrick's future hanging by a thread. To make matter worse, trouble has been brewing behind the scenes, with ongoing friction between the manager and Bruno Fernandes.
The United skipper was sensationally dropped to the bench for Sunday's 3-0 defeat Bournemouth after he publicly criticised Carrick's tactics in the wake of their 4-1 thrashing by Como four days earlier.
With the Red Devils hovering just a point above the relegation zone, the pressure around Old Trafford is at boiling point. With that in mind, here are the latest Manchester United-related news stories.

Paul Scholes believes Bruno Fernandes' Manchester United career is over and has urged the Portugal international to leave European football entirely and move to the Saudi Pro League.
The 51-year-old pulled no punches regarding Fernandes' fallout with Carrick. He branded the midfielder's outburst "unforgivable" and insisted that staff at United would never be able to trust him again.
"What Bruno Fernandes said last week, I think that's unforgivable," Scholes said. "How can Bruno Fernandes be trusted to be captain of any team he ever goes to now?

"I think he probably needs to get away from European football and just go to Saudi, just get out the way. I don't think any manager, any member of staff can trust him after that."
Michael Carrick is reportedly prepared to bring Bruno Fernandes back into the fold this weekend after leaving him on the bench against Bournemouth.
Prior to the defeat, Fernandes had played every minute of United's Premier League campaign, making his omission all the more glaring amid the club's ongoing crisis.

However, according to The Athletic, Carrick, Fernandes, and senior staff members have now agreed to draw a line under the rift, potentially paving the way for the midfielder to start at Stamford Bridge.
The internal truce follows Carrick's narrow escape from the sack earlier this week. On Monday, co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Avram Glazer, and Joel Glazer convened a high-level conference call with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox to deliberate the manager's future.
While Carrick was officially granted a stay of execution on Tuesday, anything short of a convincing performance against Chelsea could prove fatal to his tenure.
