Gary Sheffield’s son, Gary Sheffield Jr., reacted to Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. facing a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge, comparing the situation to calling an unlikely travel violation on NBA star James Harden.

On October 12, a Carmel police officer reportedly pulled Richardson over because the registration tag on his 2023 Dodge Charger had expired and did not match the vehicle. The officer then detected a strong odor of marijuana. During a subsequent search, police allegedly found a small Mason jar containing marijuana and an opened bag of 500-milligram THC-infused gummies in the glove compartment.

Richardson was temporarily handcuffed during the search but was not taken to jail. He was released at the scene after receiving a citation for the registration issue and a summons related to the marijuana possession allegation. Following the incident, Sheffield Jr. took to X to share his reaction, drawing a comparison to Harden’s history of controversial travel calls in the NBA.

“Pulling over an NFL player for possession of marijuana is like calling James Harden for a travel.”

Richardson’s attorney, James Voyles, subsequently filed a motion to waive the quarterback’s initial hearing, which had been scheduled for December 9. Reportedly, a bench trial is scheduled for January 4, 2027.

When Gary Sheffield’s son, Noah, opened up about carving his own path in baseball

In a 2024 conversation with MLB.com, Gary Sheffield’s youngest son, Noah Sheffield, discussed his determination to build his own career in baseball rather than rely on his father’s reputation and connections. The infielder explained that he wanted to make his own decisions, learn from others, and earn his place in the sport through his own work.

“I told him, ‘Leave me alone,’ I said, ‘Do not call anybody for me. I need to be on my own. I need other people to tell me what to do. I don’t want to go in there relying that you taught me everything that I know.’ I took into account where I wanted to be and that I had to work for what I wanted and not have somebody there kind of weaving my way in because of their career,” said Gary Sheffield’s son.

Noah Sheffield played collegiate baseball for the Florida State Seminoles before entering the NCAA transfer portal following his sophomore season and committing to the Michigan Wolverines. During his 2026 sophomore campaign at Florida State, he made 26 starts across 37 games, batting .250 with four home runs and 29 RBIs.
