For the first time in two weeks, the Los Angeles Rams could be on the verge of getting back star defender Trent McDuffie after he suffered a groin injury.
According to Stu Jackson, McDuffie is entering their contest against the Los Angeles Chargers listed as questionable, but the team is optimistic about his chances of playing. Sean McVay told reporters that he’s “hopeful” McDuffie will play.
McDuffie was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, as he did not practice the week before. Playing in five games this season, the defensive back has been a versatile chess piece for defensive coordinator Chris Shula, playing an inside-outside cornerback role that has helped the team take their multiple defensive sets to a new level.
He has 16 total tackles, with 13 of them being solo, along with one interception and seven pass deflections. With the rapid improvement of outside corner Josh Wallace, McDuffie could be used even more on the interior, the position in which he is most effective.
If McDuffie plays, the Rams will be almost at full strength defensively for Sunday's cross-town showdown against the winless Los Angeles Chargers.
