AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta has warned his former side against complacency, ahead of their Serie A meeting with Genoa.
Spirits were high in Ruben Amorim's squad after they defeated rivals Inter in the league, but their momentum quickly disappeared following a 2-0 defeat against Ferencvaros in the Europa League.
The Rossoneri have 21 points after 10 games, seven fewer than early leaders Lazio heading into MD11, and they have another tough task awaiting them against Genoa.
Daniele De Rossi's side have four of their last five games in Serie A, after failing to win any of their first five this season (D1 L4).
Costacurta believes Milan's players got too ahead of themselves after defeating Inter, which led to their loss in the Europa League on Thursday.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Costacurta said: "Keeping the same intensity that they had against Inter would have been difficult.
"But at the end of the day, that’s the difference between a team that wins and one that doesn’t.
"Within four days of the 3-1 win over Inter, some of them thought they'd already become big players, and that's a serious mistake.
"Thinking you've already reached a certain height can be fatal.
"You think you can do things easily, that you will always succeed, and that's a mistake you can’t afford to make.
"[Yunus] Musah, a few minutes into the game, loses the ball cheaply. [Amadou] Diawara comes carrying the ball out from the back and then throws it away. [Alphadjo] Cisse receives the ball to feet without ever creating any trouble.
"I've framed these three, but it wasn’t all their fault. It's also clear that they didn't start with the right mentality."

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Genoa – Stephan El Shaarawy
El Shaarawy, who made 83 appearances and scored 21 goals for Milan in Serie A, has provided an assist in each of his last two appearances in the competition.
Should he be involved in a goal in his next game, he would become, at 34 years and 12 days old, the second-oldest Genoa player to do so in three consecutive Serie A matches since 2004-05, after Domenico Criscito in 2021 (34 years and 269 days).
AC Milan – Diego Moreira
Moreira has been involved in seven goals (four goals and three assists) in his first six Serie A appearances for the club.
Since 2004-05, no player has been involved in more goals in their first six league games for the Rossoneri, equalling Mario Balotelli's record (seven in 2013) – no player has surpassed seven goal involvements after their seventh game, either.
MATCH PREDICTION: AC MILAN WIN
Milan are unbeaten in their last 10 Serie A matches against Genoa (W6 D4); since the 2020-21 season, among the teams they have never lost against in the top flight, the Rossoneri have only played more games against Hellas Verona (12).
Milan have also won their last four Serie A away games against Genoa. Only against three sides do the Rossoneri currently have a longer ongoing run of away wins in the competition: Verona (seven), Messina (five) and Pisa (five).
Under Amorim, Milan have scored 21 goals in their first ten Serie A matches this season; the last Rossoneri manager to do better after his first 11 league games was Cesare Maldini in 1972, with 25 goals.
However, Genoa have won their last three Serie A matches; the last time the Rossoblu recorded a run of four consecutive victories in a single top-flight season was between March and April 2009.
Genoa have won three of their first six home games in Serie A this season (D1 L2). The Rossoblu have not secured four victories in their first seven home Serie A matches since the 2015-16 campaign, when Gian Piero Gasperini was in charge.
